Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga classes are an excellent way to feel more connected to yourself and your baby, better preparing you for a positive birthing experience.

Prenatal yoga focuses on positions that are designed for pregnant women’s bodies. Common postures in "regular yoga" (such as those where your feet are spread far apart, or hip openers) may be too stressful for your joints and pelvic area when you’re expecting a baby. As your baby grows, there is a lot more weight pushing down on your bladder and pelvis. Pregnancy hormones loosen your ligaments, which can create joint and bone problems (especially in the pubic bone) a source of discomfort.

In addition to modifying positions for pregnancy, prenatal yoga emphasizes breathing, stretches, and strengthening moves that help your body prepare for labour.

As long as your doctor has given you the green light to stay physically active during pregnancy, yoga is an ideal activity for expectant moms. It’s gentle and designed for pregnancy, which means it helps prepare you for the physical and mental aspects of childbirth (and beyond). Please check with your physician before starting any new exercise during pregnancy.

Prenatal Yoga is currently offered as a registered series format. Please contact me for additional details and/or to register for the next series.
