FULL MOON ๐ŸŒ• JAN 6, 2023

PART ONE:

Our first Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• of 2023 greets us on January 6th in the waters of Cancer โ™‹๏ธ.

This is a time of self-nourishment and soul replenishment.

This Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• occurs in the midst of Capricorn โ™‘๏ธ season, reminding us to slow down, be patient with ourselves, and remember what is meant us can never miss us.ย

The Cancer โ™‹๏ธ Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• opens our hearts โค๏ธ in new ways and allows this energy to infuse our new yearโ€™s intentions.

Its power heightens our intuition and helps us make decisions that will guide our next year.

It is possible to have it all, and the Cancer โ™‹๏ธ Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• can help you manifest it.ย

PART TWO:

The Full Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ rises on Friday,ย January 6, 2023. Itโ€™s a micromoon! How is that different from a supermoon?ย

Learn whatโ€™s special about the January Fullย Moon ๐ŸŒ• below. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Januaryโ€™s Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• is a โ€œMicromoonโ€ this year. Think of this term as opposite of a โ€œSupermoon.โ€ It simply means that the Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• is at its farthest point from Earth ๐ŸŒ (not the nearest point). In astronomical terms, we call this โ€œapogee.โ€ Specifically, Januaryโ€™s Micro Full Moon ๐ŸŒ• is about 252,600ย miles fromย Earth ๐ŸŒ.

Why is the Moon nearer or farther (in this instance) from Earth?

Simple:

The Moon orbits Earth in an elliptical path. One side is nearer to Earth and one side is farther. This distance does affect the Moonโ€™s size and brightness, although itโ€™s probably not that visible to the naked eye. The perceived size of the Moon from Earth is more related to the โ€œMoon Illusionโ€ and how close the Moon appears to the horizon; in this case, itโ€™s high above the horizon so it may not appear to loom over us the way it appears when itโ€™s near theย horizon.

Why Is It Called the Full Wolfย Moon? ๐ŸŒ

Itโ€™s thought that Januaryโ€™sย full Moon ๐ŸŒ• came to beย known asย the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time. It was traditionally believed that wolvesย howled due toย hunger during winter, butย we know today that wolves howl for different reasons. Howling and other wolf vocalizations areย generally used toย define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, and coordinateย hunting.
